There were quite a few things I didn't like about the stern roller with the kit. The prototype itself was not quite the look I wanted for my kitbash anyway, but also the kit version did not, to me, provide a good representation of a roller either. Even with the outer parts faired in with filler the angle of the hull below just isn't roller shaped and the roller top is too high.

Early in the project I considered a working winch, and working roller to go with it. However the winch idea was abandoned as unlikely to ever get used, and a working roller would need extensive modification (cutting!) of the stern and would probably also make rudder actuation tricky. Done early in the build not too nightmarish, but at this stage definitely not desirable.
