HO Locomotives <<-- Previous   index   Next -->> P2k SW1200 sound 5 As supplied the top radiator mesh is moulded on the surface of the solid plastic shell. To let the sound out I used a 0.5mm bit in a mini-drill to perforate the mesh as seen here. I only drilled out complete diamonds, not partial ones at the edges of each panel. This is a slightly tedious job (with a magnifying glass) but much less work than replacing the grilles with brass mesh for instance. Some thinned dirty black paint was used to colour the light grey plastic that was thus exposed. Before the paint dried I put the shell on some paper towelling and blew down through the grille to clear the holes again.
